About Behavioral Telehealth Services at New Perspectives

All of the counselors at New Perspectives use SimplePractice as their Electronic Health Record (EHR) and client portal. This is also the medium used for all telehealth services. Telehealth services through SimplePractice are safe and secure, meeting all HIPAA and HITECH requirements.

SimplePractice telehealth may be accessed via the web on a computer, as well as via an app for smartphone and tablet. For instructions on preparing for telehealth services, please click on the link below.

Which counselors provide telehealth services?

All counselors at New Perspectives are comfortable providing telehealth services. The counselor must be licensed in the state in which the client is located at the time of the appointment, so this must be considered when scheduling.

  • Heather MacLeod: Alabama, Minnesota

  • Rachel Hartman: Alabama

  • Elise Ezelle: Alabama

  • Chip Garrett: Alabama

What will I need to participate in telehealth services?

  • Access to a computer, smartphone or tablet that has a webcam. (Phone/voice only telehealth is not generally covered by insurance for behavioral health providers.)

  • Internet with a minimum speed of 30mbps or greater. Note: Clients using internet/wifi provided by the University of Alabama may receive an error message when attempting to connect to the client portal and online sessions. If you will be using internet provided by UA, it may be necessary to schedule your appointment for a time when you will have access to an alternate source for internet.

  • A private, stationary location from which to complete the appointment (e.g. a room with a closed door to ensure separation from others for the duration of the appointment). Counselors will NOT participate in telehealth while a client is driving.

  • A signed Consent for Telehealth form (provided by your counselor through the client portal)

Will my insurance cover telehealth services?

If you have questions about whether your insurance or EAP will cover telehealth counseling, please contact that carrier or program directly.
